Roland DP603 PHA-50 Plastic + Wood Hybrid Keys
PHA-50, which is Roland’s best key action yet, is included in DP603. The combination of plastic and wood makes the DP603 look more natural, The escapement feature integrated in the PHA-50 will make players feel the action of an actual piano, because the wood parts will vibrate. It also feels natural when sliding the keys.
*Escapement – the mechanism that allows the hammer to clear the string after striking, so that the string can vibrate (TheFreeDictionary).
The hammers of grand piano are positioned horizontally and therefore get affected by gravity directly, which enables faster key recovery. Hammers of upright pianos are positioned vertically with springs (jack).

Roland DP603 Home-service Warranty

Digital pianos are not so big compared to acoustic pianos, but they are still heavy and take some volume. When your digital piano malfunctions, even if you have a warranty, you’ll have to bring your digital piano to the nearest service agency. The service agency could be a few hundred miles away, you could be living alone, or you could not have a big enough car for your piano. Roland provides home service warranty so you don’t have to do any hassle when your DP603 malfunctions. A technician will visit your home and fix the problem. Roland offers 5 years of parts + 2 years of labor warranty for DP603.
Roland DP603 Pedals
Grand pianos have 3 pedals:
-Damper (sustain) – located on the right, takes damper off the keys to make sound to resonate.
-Una Corda (soft) – located on the left, changes the volume of tone and timbre of sound.
-Sostenuto – located on the middle, sustain selected note(s) while other notes are not sustained.
And most upright pianos do not have Una Corda and Sostenuto pedals, they have half blow pedal and practice pedal instead:
-Half blow – This pedal is similar function as Una Corda but it is mechanically different because instead of hammers move aside to hit less string, hammers go closer to the strings.
-practice (muffler, mute) – This is completely different than Sostenuto pedal because this pedal just places a felt-fabric curtain between the hammers and string to make smaller sound.
Roland DP603’s 3 pedals are grand piano’s pedals.

Roland DP603 Physical Modeling vs. Ordinary Sampling
Instead of recording each key with different velocity (sampling), Roland came up with a computerized algorithm to produce the natural sound of piano called “physical-modelling”. This means that players are able to express even intricate details with the DP603. It can simulate the different resonances from different piano voices since they all have different materials and design.
Roland DP603 3D Ambience
When playing alone with headphones, the 3D ambience function will make players feel like the sound of the piano is resonating all around them, as if they are playing piano at a studio or concert hall.
On board lesson function| Roland DP603 has over 300 songs in the system for players to listen, repeat (loop), and master.
Roland DP603 Bluetooth
Roland DP603 supports bluetooth 4.0. It can be connected to multiple devices (supports Android, Windows, and IOS) for music applications (ex. GarageBand). And it has a bluetooth recognition function, which means, you can connect the piano to an apple device, and have the device to turn the sheet music automatically for you. And it will give users easier control for piano option changes.
